June 2021 is National Safety Month

June 2021 is National Safety Month from the National Safety Council (NSC), one of the nation’s most trusted safety organizations. Each year, the NSC uses the National Safety Month campaign to send the message of safety to Americans in all walks of life and who work in all industries. With a little bit of safety awareness and knowledge, you, too, can help prevent serious accidents like traffic collisions, construction accidents, etc.

The four main talking points for this year’s National Safety Month are:

  • Accident prevention: The best way to avoid being seriously injured in any type of accident is to avoid the accident in the first place. The first week of National Safety Month will focus on smart ways to avoid day-to-day accidents and incidents with a focus on those that can happen in the average workplace.
  • COVID-19 concerns: Many employers are opening their doors under “normal” conditions again now that effective and safe coronavirus vaccines have been given to millions of Americans. But there are still some reasons to be concerned about returning to work during the pandemic, especially for people with autoimmune deficiencies or who live with someone in a vulnerable population. The NSC will share detailed information about addressing COVID-19 concerns in the workplace.
  • Importance of feeling safe: Not to focus only on physical dangers and injuries, the third week of National Safety Month will address the importance of feeling safe at work and elsewhere. A persistent feeling of being unsafe can be psychologically damaging, which can trigger various problems like depression, anxiety, and more.
  • Intentional safety improvements: For the end of National Safety Month 2021, the NSC wants to challenge everyone to continue their own “safety journeys” by making intentional safety improvements in their day-to-day lives. You can download a new app that locks your phone while you are driving. You can create an around-the-house safety checklist or one for work. Whatever you do to advance safety in your life will help!
